Kylee Katipo Promoted to Managing Associate

Whāia te iti kahurangi, ki te tūohu koe me he maunga teitei.

The Directors are very pleased to announce that Kylee Katipo has been appointed as a Managing Associate of the firm. He mihi nui tēnei ki a ia, e te mareikura.

Kylee’s promotion recognises her commitment to our mahi, her demonstration of our firm values through action, and her leadership, particularly within our Māori Legal Team.

Kylee joined McCaw Lewis as a Senior Solicitor in 2018 after 10 years working in the Māori Land Court for the Ministry of Justice bringing significant experience and contacts in the field of Te Ture Whenua Māori (Māori Land). Her passion for Māori Land, her expertise in this area and her business acumen have taken the firm’s mahi in this space to the next level.

Kylee has significant court experience and has represented clients before the Māori Appellate Court, Māori Land Court and Waitangi Tribunal.  She has worked closely with iwi groups, Māori incorporations and Māori trusts on significant projects and developments including commercial and property related areas involving Māori land and marae governance.

Her leadership in not just her mahi, but other key firm activities – in particular our cultural initiatives – demonstrate Kylee’s commitment to our values.

Kylee is actively involved in competitions at Te Piringa Faculty of Law at The University of Waikato and has presented submissions to Parliament on Te Ture Whenua Māori Amendment Bill. She recently contributed as an author of Multicultural Lawyering, Navigating the Culture of the Law, the Lawyer and the Client K E O’Leary and M Martin-Scott (2021).
